Lucifer Says, "Tell Me, What is it You Desire?" A Succesful Spell to Business

What Career Insight I learned from watching Lucifer

Disclaimer: Before we start, this is not a religious article.

Lucifer is not just the Devil; but a savvy businessman. After binge-watching three seasons of the show, I’m beginning to grasp his strategy. He has a knack for probing his targets about their deepest desires, a unique ability he wields effortlessly.

When he descended to Earth, he started with nothing. But somehow, within just five years, he skyrocketed to the top; he owns the Lux nightclub, a fancy car, and a bunch of cash stacks in his pocket. We never see him worry about money at the show.

There might be valuable lessons from his rapid rise that could help us be wealthy within the same timeframe. Let’s see into them.

Whatever You Desire, I Can Give it to You

Let’s start with the obvious one — the basis of all it is in life. It’s all about trade. Think about it: when you engage with someone, whether for information, companionship, or only to stave off loneliness, there’s an exchange happening. If the other person doesn’t see any benefit in it they might walk away or disappear the next time around.

Everything boils down to this concept of trade. Your friendships, relationships, career, business — it’s all about what you can offer to others. It’s a simple trade.

This is the most important lesson of the show that I think we forget to keep in mind every day. Hence, we’re missing friendships, and relationships, and stalling our career progress.

We need to offer something.

He made a deal that granted him the Lux nightclub. The same tricks he did in his partnership with the detective. It wasn’t all about intimidation tactics. Some folks he encountered couldn’t care less about emotions; they were all about the deal. So he had to come up with something enticing to offer in return — hence his signature question, “What do you truly desire?” It’s about finding that sweet spot where both parties get something out of the deal.

Keep Your Words. They’re a Commitment.

Lucifer might be the devil, but he possesses a striking quality — his unwavering pride in his word. Once he gives his promise, he will have to twist the world inside out to make his promise come true. It’s a trait we could all learn from.

As a businessman, he ensures that his services deliver, providing a valuable lesson for us all. Think about it — how often do we make promises we can’t keep? Often we make unknowingly hard promises that we can’t fulfil. It lessens our credibility as a person. People won’t respect us as much or dare to confide in us whether it’s a business or a personal matter.

Respect and trust aren’t freebies; you’ve got to earn them. So, if you want your career or business to soar, stick to your word and deliver on those tough promises. Clients will notice and keep coming back, knowing they can rely on you to follow through.

“Several studies have shown that companies with high levels of trust have more loyal customers, do more and more profitable business, get customers who recommend them, have shorter sales cycles, higher revenues and greater market value than companies with low levels of trust.” — Research report: 6 keys to gaining customer trust in B2B.

There was one hard promise Lucifer struggled to deliver. It was to kill Cain, the first human. Despite Cain’s persistent attempts over millennia to end his own life, he remained alive. Ultimately, Lucifer succeeded in delivering on his promise to Cain to help him kill himself. It was an achievement that restored his pride and honour. It underscored his commitment to his word as well.

Let’s take a step back and think about what we can learn from this. We’ve all had moments where we’ve let ourselves down, and it’s tempting to brush them off to avoid feeling like a failure. But here’s the thing: when we downplay our mistakes, we end up losing credibility. People stop taking us seriously.

So, let’s not make the same mistake. Instead of sweeping our failures under the rug, let’s confront them head-on. By owning up to our shortcomings and working to rectify them, we can maintain our credibility and earn the respect of those around us.

Magnetic, Charming, and Good-looking.

Lucifer’s got that undeniable charm that makes him almost universally liked, except for those times when his self-centeredness gets in the way. If Lucifer toned down the self-love a bit, he’d probably have fewer haters on his back. His unwavering confidence and persuasiveness make him almost irresistible to anyone he encounters.

There are many scientifically proven benefits of being attractive or good-looking. However, I think what truly makes someone attractive is how they take care of themselves and carry themselves with confidence and self-respect.

Let’s dive more into what we can study, which is charisma.

CLT: Charismatic Leadership Tactics

“ Our research with managers in the laboratory and in the field indicates that anyone trained in what we call “charismatic leadership tactics” (CLTs) can become more influential, trustworthy, and “leaderlike” in the eyes of others. ” — Harvard Business Review

Research says that being charismatic is important in a leadership role. When you are perceived as trustworthy and influential, people will naturally gravitate towards you, seeking your guidance and assistance. Whether it’s fulfilling their desires or striking deals, your reputation as a charismatic leader precedes you, making you a sought-after figure in any setting.

Quick Points

Being aware of what you can provide to people can make your business, career, and relationship thrive. Here are the key points you need to keep in mind:

  1. Ask yourself, what can you offer to others?
  2. Deliver your end of the bargain no matter how hard it is.
  3. Be the person people think they can come up to and make things happen.
  4. Being charismatic and caring about your appearance helps in gaining trust.
  5. When you’ve got these qualities, remember not to be self-centred.
